Deputy City Manager Viet Hoang and Social Worker Valerie Hernandez are the City’s two experts on the needs of, and the services available to, the unhoused population of Torrance. Viet organizes the Torrance portion of the County’s Homeless Count every year, and was instrumental in bringing the City’s Tiny Homes Village to fruition. Valerie, a Harbor Interfaith social worker, is contracted specifically to provide for the needs of the homeless in our City.
At SNA’s General Meeting, prepare to gain insight into the factors that lead an individual or family to become unhoused, and what it takes to put them back on the road to stability.

Location: Sea Aire Golf Clubhouse - 22730 Lupine Dr, Torrance, CA 90505
“I speak for the trees, for the trees have no tongues,” says the main character in the wise Dr. Seuss book, “The Lorax.” Many people in our area speak ABOUT the Torrance trees, wanting to know why they’re cut down, and what plans are in place to replace them. Park Services Manager Tracy Drake will answer questions about the City’s parks and City Arborist Luis Ochoa, will answer questions regarding the City's trees.
As evidenced by our brown lawns and gardens, Los Angeles County is in its third year of drought. What specifically does the City of Torrance require of its residents to minimize water usage? Chuck Schaich, Public Works Policy and Resource Specialist, and Leah Portman, Administrative Analyst, will clarify water conservation laws and give suggestions for low water gardening.
A third City employee, Sanitation Manager Chris Kuebert, will discuss recycling and kitchen food scrap disposal.
SNA V. P. of Membership, Jenna Christensen, will talk about the vegetation at our own Seaside Heroes Park, where she leads volunteers once a month in beautifying the grounds.
